Does the Glorious Qur'an takes a Geocentric View of the Universe?
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World's.
Salam, they claim that the Glorious Qur'an states that the Sun orbits around the Earth, and to refute these I shall simply God (Exalted be He) Willing be answering each ayah and then just show how the Qur'an clearly doesn't take a geocentric view of the universe.
Firstly, they claim that verses which are true - factually accurate - because they are referring to the sky when you look at it are then referring to something further, for instance Verse 1 and 2 of Surah Ash-Shams which says (translation of the meaning): "By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; By the Moon as she follows him..." - this verse is obviously referring to the sky when you stare at it, the two next verses go on and say (translation of the meaning) 'By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; By the Night as it conceals it...' - the Sun is concealed in the night sky, and it is a fact that in the sky the Sun is followed by the Moon. This is true for practically all of their verses.
So then, now how do we know The Glorious Qur'an doesn't take a geocentric view of the Earth?
This verse in the Glorious Qur'an:
The reason this verse shows that the Noble Qur'an doesn't take a Geocentric View of the Universe is because the Qur'an is referencing ALL MOVING: not only the sun and moon but also Earth. In Arabic grammar there is difference between the singular (one), binary (two) and plural (three or more). The Glorious Quran said "Kullon yajree كل يجري" referring to the plural (three or more). So what does this tell us? It tells us that the Glorious Qur'an states that the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun are ALL MOVING! Not Geocentric! And not Heliocentric either! Both are wrong! I'd like to add that this view is also given by scholars such as Sh. Yasir Qadhi, it's not something I just made up now.
So there you go, The Glorious Qur'an neither advocates either view of the Universe, neither heliocentric (everything goes around the Sun) or geocentric (everything goes around the Earth) but the more scientifically accurate one - which seems to be neither. And Alhamdulilah! All praise is due to Allah (subhana wa ta'ala)!
wa Allahu Alam.
All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World's.
